## What changed

Over the last 90 days, 2,723 people used the Excel assistant, taking 1,010,470 actions inside their workbooks. Nearly two in three people (64.6%) came back more than once, which may suggest the tool has become a regular helper rather than a one-time try.

Weekly activity rose steadily from 363 people in the week of 2026-07-05 to a high of 830 people in the week of 2026-08-16, then eased off to 323 people by the week of 2026-09-20. Over the same weeks, newer app versions (2.0.7, then 2.0.8, then 2.0.11) steadily replaced older ones. In the most recent two-week comparison, active people fell from 653 to 501, and actions fell from 134,689 to 95,422. This may suggest a natural cool-down after a busy summer, a shift tied to the version changes, or both.

## How well it worked

Detailed outcome labels only exist for versions 2.0.5 and later, starting 2026-08-28. Earlier versions cannot be judged the same way, so we avoid drawing reliability conclusions about them here.

For the tracked versions, overall failure rates ranged from 4.52% (version 2.0.5) to 7.8% (version 2.0.9), with the newest, 2.0.11, at 5.52%; the very newest versions have far fewer people (6 and 44), so these figures may shift as more data comes in. Looking at fixed failure categories across this period: mismatched or missing input accounted for 8,567 actions among 896 people, problems inside Excel itself for 4,642 actions among 580 people, timeouts or cancellations for 1,513 actions among 254 people, and outside-service issues for 206 actions among 95 people. Only 1 action from 1 person was traced to a fault in the assistant itself. Separately, 1,046 actions among 376 people were expected negative results, such as correctly reporting nothing was found, not real failures. Still, 3,531 actions among 648 people remain unclassified, so some outcomes are not yet sorted into a clear category.

## How people use it

Most activity centers on everyday spreadsheet work: reading and organizing tables and ranges accounts for 820,778 actions among 3,417 people, well over half of everything recorded. Reading cell values alone happened 207,625 times for 2,948 people, and writing values happened 137,708 times for 2,476 people, suggesting most people lean on the assistant for routine data handling.

A smaller, steadier group goes further. Running macros drew 100,807 actions from 1,023 people, Power Query data transformation drew 51,415 actions from 627 people, and multi-step automation drew 14,059 actions from 1,131 people. Even a niche feature like running code in Excel appears, with 319 actions from 65 people, hinting that a few people are exploring more advanced, programmable ways to work.

## What we will improve

We plan to look closely at why active people and actions both dropped in the latest two weeks, so we can tell whether this reflects the version changes or a broader dip in demand. We also want to shrink the unclassified group of 3,531 actions by adding clearer categories, so fewer outcomes are left unexplained. Finally, we intend to extend detailed outcome tracking back to earlier versions, so future reports can compare reliability across the full release history rather than starting at version 2.0.5.
