Usage over the last 12 complete weeks¶
Each bar is one full week, which makes changes easier to compare.
Release upgrades over time¶
Each column is one week; the final column is the current week so far. A user appears once, under the latest release they used that week. This makes it easy to see newer releases replace older ones without overall user growth changing the scale. Less common releases are grouped as Other.
The latest two weeks¶
The latest period is Aug 14, 2026 to Aug 28, 2026. It is compared with Jul 31, 2026 to Aug 14, 2026.
| Measure | Latest 14 days | Previous 14 days | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Users | 1,280 | 1,107 | 15.63% |
| Actions | 282,279 | 201,195 | 40.3% |
What the numbers tell us¶
Summary written by GitHub Copilot
Copilot reads only the anonymous totals used to build this page. Its summary is checked automatically so it cannot add private details or numbers that are not in the report.
What changed¶
Over the last 90 days, 2,916 users asked Excel MCP to carry out 837,077 meaningful actions. 60.34 percent used it on at least two different days. This suggests that many people continue using the project after first trying it.
Growth remained strong in the latest 14 days. Users increased from 1,107 to 1,280, a rise of 15.63 percent. Actions increased from 201,195 to 282,279, a larger rise of 40.3 percent. Actions growing faster than users suggests that people are doing more work with Excel MCP, not only discovering it.
The longer view supports that pattern. The first complete week shown had 383 users and 34,944 actions. The latest complete week had 830 users and 124,514 actions. It followed a peak of 148,405 actions, so use remains high even though weekly totals naturally vary.
How well it worked¶
Corrected error counting now covers 1,018 actions from 17 users on release 2.0.3. It recorded 48 errors, or 4.72 percent of actions. This is still an early result, so it is a starting point rather than a verdict on the release.
Writing cell values accounted for 10 errors. Writing formulas and checking the Excel data model each accounted for 6, while listing worksheets accounted for 5. Writing formulas had a 27.27 percent error rate based on 22 actions. Showing both the count and the rate prevents a small number of actions from looking more important than they are.
How people use it¶
Tables and ranges account for 66.01 percent of meaningful actions. Worksheets and connections add 11.86 percent, while PivotTables and charts add 7.9 percent. Practical spreadsheet work is clearly the center of how people use Excel MCP.
Use also reaches the project's specialist features. VBA macros account for 5.88 percent of actions, Power Query for 4.4 percent, and Power Pivot and DAX for 1.86 percent. Agent mode accounts for 1.01 percent, while Python in Excel is still emerging at 0.02 percent.
The upgrade chart shows several releases in active use. In the current week, 2.0.2 is the largest individually shown release at 15.13 percent, followed by 2.0.1 at 13.92 percent and 2.0.0 at 12.72 percent. The newest 2.0.3 release accounts for 2.28 percent so far.
What we will improve¶
We will first investigate errors when writing cell values and formulas because tables and ranges make up the largest part of use. We will also examine problems when checking the data model and listing worksheets.
We will watch the upgrade chart to see how quickly newer fixes reach users. We will also keep action counts beside error rates, helping us focus on repeated problems instead of large percentages based on very few actions.
What people use most¶
The bars group actions by the main features highlighted on the Excel MCP homepage. The percentage is each feature's share of meaningful actions. Smaller capabilities are grouped as Other features.
| Homepage feature | Actions | Users | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tables & ranges | 507,748 | 2,608 | 66.01% |

Actions reporting errors¶
Accurate error counting began on Aug 27, 2026 with the latest patch release. Earlier releases are excluded because they did not count every kind of failed action.
| Action | Actions | Errors | Error rate | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Write cell values | 111 | 10 | 9.01% | 8 |
| Write formulas | 22 | 6 | 27.27% | 5 |
| Datamodel Evaluate | 50 | 6 | 12% | 1 |
| List worksheets | 38 | 5 | 13.16% | 14 |
| File Test | 13 | 3 | 23.08% | 3 |
| Read cell values | 159 | 3 | 1.89% | 12 |
| Vba Import | 2 | 2 | 100% | 1 |
| Find the used area | 38 | 2 | 5.26% | 9 |
| Workbook Save Copy As | 6 | 2 | 33.33% | 2 |
| Pivottable Refresh | 4 | 1 | 25% | 2 |
| Find cells | 14 | 1 | 7.14% | 2 |
| Datamodel Create Measure | 33 | 1 | 3.03% | 1 |
| Screenshot Capture Sheet | 7 | 1 | 14.29% | 5 |
| Range Edit Insert Rows | 3 | 1 | 33.33% | 2 |
| Format cells | 38 | 1 | 2.63% | 6 |
Errors by release¶
This comparison can reveal a problem introduced in a release. It is not a direct quality score: different releases may be used for different kinds of work. The action count shows how much data each rate is based on.
| Release | Actions | Errors | Error rate | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.0.3 | 1,018 | 48 | 4.72% | 17 |
Problems we are watching¶
No broadly shared background problem appeared during this period.
